The Time Lauryn Hill Made Me Cry

The Time Lauryn Hill Made Me Cry
Ms. Lauryn Hill is, without question, one of my most favorite emcees/singers. Before she blew up with The Fugees, I was always captivated by her singing in Sister Act 2. You know, where she is sitting at the piano and sings “His Eye Is On The Sparrow?” That voice of hers just hit my soul, there is no denying that! A couple years ago she came to Denver, CO with Nas on the Black Rage/Life Is Good Tour. A great friend and mentor of mine, who also tour manages with Ms. Hill, invited me and a friend to the show. Of course, I was SO excited because I had never seen her performing live before. When I got to The Fillmore, I could hear Nas finishing his set from outside. I was running late and was mad as HELL I missed his show. I had never seen a show at this venue before so I started out upstairs watching the first half of Ms. Hill’s show. She had a full band behind her- which was beyond dope and added to the performance. She belted, rapped and sang until she sweat! Ms. Hill puts out so much energy when she performs! About 3/4 way though the show, my friend that invited me had me come down close to the stage and walked me through this door and on to the stage. I then stood there, quietly and focused, as I watch this LEGEND, Ms. Lauryn Hill, sing to a crowd of over 3K people! I must have been about 15-20 feet behind her in the shadows. At this time she was singing “Everything Is Everything.” I will NEVER forget the energy I felt at that moment. It was so overwhelming! I couldn’t even help it, tears started falling from my eyes. It was an amazing reality in that moment to be watching this woman who I had been listening to and singing/rapping along with for over 14 years. She completely blew me away. The time Lauryn Hill made me cry is something I will cherish and never forget. I am forever thankful to my friend for giving me the chance to experience that. If You have never seen Ms. Lauryn Hill live, I highly suggest you do it! She will be back in Denver, CO July 13th, 2014 at The Ogden Theater. You can catch her in your city as she continues the Ms. Lauryn Hill Homecoming Concert Series in 2014.
