Pioneering Hip-Hop Journalism | Flowers For Elliott Wilson

Today Elliott Wilson celebrates his 50th birthday and along with that, I’d like to give him his flowers and show appreciation! Many have paved the way for Hip-Hop/Music journalism but Elliott has played a major part in this game and continues to inspire!

Looking back on his career as not only an author but writer for Beat Down Magazine, Ego Trip, The Source, XXL, Vibe, GQ and even Rolling Stone! I think a lot of us can say that his time at The Source as music editor, he produced some of the most classic and memorable covers for sure! Then taking his talents to XXL, he continued to prove his vision and work ethic was unmatched. This is known at the “YN ERA.” Better act like you know!

Fast forward to founding Rap Radar and then moving on and UP to Chief Content Officer at Tidal giving us some of the most ICONIC interviews with Car Test (my favorite) and CRWN featuring Nipsey Hussle, Jay-Z, MJB, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled and so many more! For artists at the caliber to be comfortable sitting down and getting personal with someone, this really attests to Elliott’s character and ability to nurture his relationships within the industry. BIG, BIG SALUTE!

This is not even close to a full list of everything he has done but if you don’t know, you need to pay attention and do your research, especially for aspiring music journalists/bloggers. It’s not impossible to achieve your dreams at the highest level and Elliott continues to prove that.

So, Happy 50th Elliott, thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do!

*THROWS FLOWERS*
